The production of marketable fish begins with stocking of Fingerlings into a culture pond that ensures optimum and rapid growth to allow harvest in the shortest time.
Farmer has to stock adequate number of seeds for better results. Farmers must stock fingerlings of minimum of 70 MM size and stocking density of 10,000 fingerlings per hectare of pond. Department of Fisheries Uttarakhand provide seeds of six carp varieties from its Fish seed Hatcheries/Farms situated at district Udham singh Nagar and Dehradun and also from different fish rearing units established through different schemes.

Uttrakhand is one of the potential trout farming state of the country. However, trout farming is still in infancy in the state. There are few farmers carrying out trout farming in selected districts, for whom need of trout seed is fulfilled through departmental farm at district Chamoli and procuring seed from other sources.
Interested fish farmers can get Carp Fish seed from April to October & Trout Fish Seed from December to February. For seed availability/procuring, the fish farmers can provide demand either to Block/District fisheries Officials OR they can directly purchase fish seed from Govt fish Farm/Hatcheries.
